Hi everyone,
Sorry for the long explanation!
I built my own PC for the first time a couple of months back and it has been working perfectly since I first booted it up. However, yesterday it completely powered down as I was playing a game and now does not turn back on.
I check the temps regularly using HWmonitor and they have always been good and I never overclock my machine. About an hour before it died I got a message saying something about a power surge to one of the USB ports on my case, I think I accidently bent the pin within the port through putting in my mic USB the wrong way! I removed all my devices from each port and moved the pin back and then an hour later it powers down, is this coincidental or the reason I have damaged something? I’ve never had this message before.
I have read numerous forums on this site and followed all the hints and tips I have found but nothing is working.
I tried the paper clip test on my PSU and it powers up my HDD and case fans, however the PSU fan itself does not power up, but it apparently is not supposed to until a certain load. When I reconnect it to my mobo there is no sign of anything apart from a light on the mobo itself, no noise, no fans, nothing powers up.
There are no visible signs on my mobo or CPU of damage, would there be if I fried them?
My question is what have I possibly broken? CPU and/or MOBO and/or PSU and/or something else?
I have ordered a new PSU which should be here Monday.
My specs
Mobo – Asus z87 Pro
CPU – Intel I7 4770K (Noctua NH-U12S Heatsink)
PSU – Corsair RM750
GPU – Asus GTX 770
RAM – Kingston HyperX Predator 8GB
Any help would be fantastic as I am freaking the f out over here! Thank you in advance for your time!

I hope so! I read that the PSU is the most likely thing to break, but im worried its taken other components with it. It still shown life though with the paper clip test. I suppose that test is not definitive though. Thanks for your reply dude.

Update -

So my new PSU arrived today. I installed only the CPU, heatsink and RAM to the motherboard and powered up the PSU and nothing happened, the same light came on the motherboard but no signs of life whatsoever. However, i left the power on for a few minutes and noticed the board got very hot only at the bottom near the bottom PCI slot, everywhere else was cool. Is this normal or a sign the motherboard is dead? Thanks for any help!

it look like it can be your cpu or motherboard..
did your try to reseating the cpu? check for bent pin on the cpu socket on mobo.( take a magnifying glass )
try removing the gpu and init the system with the integrated igp instead (go in the bios screen at the system boot )
let me know

Yeah i removed the motherboard from the case and reseated everything. Just had another look at the pins and the CPU and they both look as they did new. I cant get any power in to the system at all, is there another way to get into the bios screen? im fairly new to all this. Because I only bought these parts (CPU, motherboard) within the last few months do you think i can get them replaced?

Do you think if the system doesnt power up at all, for example, the heatsink fan doesnt even spin, that the motherboard is the culprit?
