i need some advise concerning cooling pads. I am looking for a cooling pad that can work with a 17inch laptop (HP envy) , I have seen a lot of positive and negative reviews on some cooling pads and i am confused right now . I read that cooling pads with 140mm fans such as the Cooler master notepal U3 are best for 17inch laptops but then again there are some negative reviews on the product. So please i would like to know which cooling pad you guys would suggest and if possible i would like to know if the speed of a cooling pad can be increased.
I would really appreciate some response. Thanks

Surprised no response for such a simple soloution.
i have a 17inch HP laptop too, dv7-6b51ea to be precise and was experiencing a very hot underside and fans gushing loud pretty often during gaming or watching blurays.
I went through several cheap plastic cooler stands housing 2-3 small up-flow fans but they didn't quite do the job and at £3 broke quick

I finally went in and bought a decent full metal cooler called 'Coolermaster Notepal U2 Cooler with Dual Fan for Notebook' which as the name says, houses 2 fans 80mm fans which you can clip into place anywhere on the underside of the stand where you require to be cooled, such as near a vent or where you suppose your cpu is.
It only costs £23'ish and is solid aluminium, meshed design, very durable, the usb used to power it has a female port itself too, so you don't lose a usb port.

It solved my overheating problem flawlessly, and the fans run as quiet as the laptop fans do at medium speed and can get chilly if used on your lap.

Though that was 2years ago, now there is a U3 version with 3 fans, though my 2 fan works perfectly well enough to not need to dish out again for the upgrade but still may do so just for that extra chilly bite :)

Hope this aids your solution if you have not already found one

EDIT: speed cannot be increased on the U2 costing £23, but the U3 costing £24 (strangely little price difference) does have a speed controller
