hi welcome to toms hardware. intel set the spec on there newer cpu at 1600 speed at 1.5v. you can use faster ram the only issue is that if it damages the cpu intel may not cover the cost of replacing the cpu. most of the issues with memory controler being damaged is over volting the memory controller. most newer ram is 1.5 or 1.6v. as long as it this speed and you dont go higher you wont hurt the intel cpu. a lot people buy the real high end fast ram and over volt it so high it burns out the cpu in a short amount of time. in real life 1600 ram is 800 speed. if you got the ram is 2000.00 it would be 1000 sped on the bus or 200.00 mghz faster then the 1600.
