Thanks for taking the time to look at this, Longtime lurker but this is my first post.
I recently bought an ssd and also upgraded from a 270x to a 290x and upgraded to windows 8.1 I took a few hours and got everything set up just fine, however once in install the drivers, I will start running into random reboots, it will be fine for a few hours, and then randomly lock up while i'm browsing webpages or just doing normal everyday stuff on the pc
I check my event logs and I see a hyperthread transport watchdog timeout error and event id 20
from what I've gleaned there are a lot of people that get this error but no official word on
the things I've tried so far are.
uninstalling and rolling back to 13.1 drivers (complete clean uninstall)
uninstalling and using the beta drivers 14.4(complete clean uninstall here too)
resetting my motherboard bios back to factory settings even though I Hadn't changed anything in there.
Testing all my memory, though its working fine with the 270x
A few things have me convinced its either the card itself,or the drivers. Here is my reasoning
it works fine, running the video off the card in windows 8.1 PRIOR to installing the drivers, obviously this doesn't help as its just an expensive vga adapter at that point. but it works just fine for as long as its on, never crashing.
also I've ran into no problems when I swap my 270x back in, the drivers seem to work fine with the 270x and don't give me any grief. however there are certain things that the 290x does that the 270x doesn't.
I literally just bought the card, it was factory sealed when I opened it so I hope it isn't the card.
My specs are as follows
Motherboard - asus M4a78lt-m
PSU - Corsair CX750 80+ bronze with over and under voltage protection
CPU - AMD Phenom II 1045T
Ram 16 gb DDR3 (i'm at work and I forget what speed but i'm nearly positive its not the ram)
GPU XFX R9 290X
other GPU (known good) for testing - Powercolor R9-270x
Running in a bitfenix phenom case with plenty of air, I've got 2 120 mm fans on the top pulling air out, and a giant 230 fan on the bottom bringing in cold air.
Thanks for any time you devote to this, I'd prefer not to have to RMA the card and I'm perplexed because I can run it fine off the card, with no trouble, before I install the drivers, but like I said, the drivers let the 270x run just fine
