I am currently trying to chose a graphics card for my first build, I am looking at these:

http://www.ebuyer.com/396967-gigabyte-gv-n660oc-2gd-660...

and

http://www.dabs.com/products/zotac-geforce-gtx-760-993m...

My problem is that although one runs on a newer Nivida, they both have the same specs and the price is only £16 difference, what would I be best off buying/which would give better performance? I am looking for gaming and am likely to want to overclock later on.

non reference = a custom gpu cooler so a dual or tri fan cooler. Not a single fan cooler on the high end cards.

760 is better but get a non-reference card:

Sorry I'm quite new to this, what do you mean by new reference?

He means that you should get a version of that product built by other manufacturers who have improved on the initial design. 'reference' equates to the very first of that product released.

Is this a necessity if I wish to overclock? can I not just add extra cooling when the time comes for the same effect? ?

Buying a non-reference is cheaper than getting a reference and another cooler.
It would be better for overclocking but generally even at stock speed, it will be cooler and quieter.

The next is a non reference/custom cooler gtx 760,
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-n760tf2g...
10 pounds more.
You could also look at the r9 270X which isn't as good but still a fine choice,
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-r9270xcd...
or if overclocking doesn't scare you this r9 270,
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvr...
this should be able to go to r9 270X values and probably a bit higher see,
http://www.overclock.net/t/1449757/gigabyte-r9-270-over...

The problem with the reference cooler (gtx 760) is that the gpu will run hotter and louder,if you don't mind that is that oké,but you also want to overclock the card which will make it even run hotter so with that in mind is the custom cooler version worh it's money.
