Hello friends,

My PC is in need for an upgrade in a years time, and I was wondering what are the main hardware components which dictates upgradeability. I have heard from a few people that it is important to have an upgradeable Motherboard, and PSU. Other than that am I missing anything else?

Thanks,

Your PSU will only need upgrading if your parts require more power. Your PSU and hard drive are probably the least most often upgraded components. The main hardware component will be your motherboard. This will dictate which processor is compatible with your system and what type of RAM you can use. The socket type of the motherboard is the deciding factor on your options regarding processors. As long as the socket type matches, you can upgrade to any processor. The RAM slots are pretty straight forward too, the specs will list the compatibility as "DDR3 1600/800/666" etc, meaning the motherboard is compatible with all DDR 3 memory whose speeds are either 1600, 800 or 666.

Hopefully this explains the information you are seeking to a...
