I'm just wondering if it worth it to wait for the i5 4690k compared to i5 4670k for my new build.
I haven't brought a Mobo or CPU yet as I couldn't get them off Amazon (live in NZ) so I'm just buying them locally. So any mobo recommendations are welcome too, especially about Z97 vs Z87.

Parts I've brought:
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 760 GDDR5-2GB Windforce
RAM: Kingston Beast 8gb 2400 MHz
PSU: Seasonic X-850 850 Watt

Solution
Maybe.

Advantages:
1) It will be faster when properly overclocked (let's say about 8% faster).

2) Can get a cheaper CPU cooler depending on overclocking goal (like Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, though I prefer the Noctua NH-U12S)

Disadvantages:

1) Price of Z97 motherboard and new i5 likely a bit more expensive (I just bought the Z87 Asus Gryphon and it was cheaper than the Z97 Gryphon.)

2) A bit more of a wait.

3) Very few games benefit beyond 4GHz on an i5-3570K or i5-4670K currently.

4) I would say "more future proof" and it is, but the CPU threads will be used more efficiently (Mantle and/or DX12) reducing or eliminating the need for the...
4690k has better thermal performance and is 100mhz faster i guess it would depend if you want some extreme overclocks on your cpu if not 4670k is pretty much the same just 100 mhz slower as far as motherboards toms did review of best mobos and asrock extreme4 came out at the top for z97 or you can go with extreme4 z87 and save some $ as z97 really doesnt have many advantages over z87

Summary:
For gaming I don't think it will matter much, but for video editing it will help (about 8% faster). Overall I guess waiting is the big deal.

Seems like I'll be buying the i5 4670k because the gains don't seem to be worth the extra cost and wait. Any recommendations for a mobo I was looking at MSI Z87 G45 Gaming, but I'm not quite sure. This rig will be built for gaming btw.

I have the Z97 Hero w/ a 4770K in it while waiting for the 4x90K CPUs to be released, and am running a 4770K on the Z87 Hero also (in sig). In favor of the Z97, it runs cooler and OCs better, also handles faster DRAM (so DRAM also OC's better). The 4x90K come with a miniscule .1 faster base, but also OC better...additionally the Z97 provides a upgrade path for the Broadwell CPUs that the Z87 chipset doesn't.
