I live in the tropics. Ambient temps range from (20-33 peak). I have a non-k haswell i5 (i5 4440). I want to be as cool as it can be. Using stock cooler, temps are around 38-43 idle and 45-55 under load. Which would yield me better temps, a Hyper 212X/Noctua nh-d14 or an H80i/H10i/Coolermaster Seidon 120V? Please help.

Solution
On a 4440 the Hyper 212 EVO will more than suffice, no need for anything more expensive unless you are planning to get a K model and give it a large OC, the EVO can handle a 4770K with no problem at 4.4
This case will give you 176mm clearance for CPU coolers
It comes down to your personal preference , Air ? or AIO (all in one ) water cooler
the noctua NHD14 is probably the pick of the air heatsinks and will fit into your case easilly at 160mm tall
your case will also support th H100i in the roof.
Personaly i would choose the h100i over the NHD14 but with either you will be fine
only thing to note with the H100i is distance from the top of your case to the top of your motherboard needs to be minimum of
55mm , the fan is 25mm thick and the radiator 27 say 30mm , 25+30=55mm that is bare minimum , remember you must also allow room for your 12v eps cable or get creative and not route it through the back of your case.
either is a really good option.
By the way , those temps are not too bad , you would be fine if you left it as is those temps are well inside safe limmits

my motherboard is a g1 sniper b5. can it carry the weight of a NHD14? also, if i go water, would i get idles around the 20 degree mark if my ambient is low 20's? regardless of type of cooling, which of the 2 will give me the lowest temp? sorry for being persistent.

1) The Noctua NH-D14 has a Voltage-controlled fan and is probably overkill for your usage.

2) Liquid coolers are okay, but suffer from the problem of reduced air flow over the CPU voltage regulators and System Memory. That's why they often tell you to turn the fans around to blow air towards the CPU area, however if you do that you need to rethink your airflow (likely have top/rear as INTAKE and front as EXHAUST).

3) Some coolers have compatibility issues with the DDR3 memory left slot or top PCIe slot.

4) *I recommend the Noctua NH-U12S. After much research i installed it for an i5-4670K. I don't have the temps but you should be fine.

The U12S is incredibly quiet. I absolutely can't hear it in normal usage.

**Look carefully at the NOISE vs COOLING (noise doubles every 10dB increase. Thus 40dB is 4x as loud as 20dB).

The ONLY quieter cooler at this performance level is another more expensive Noctua. The liquid coolers cool a bit better but at the expense of much higher NOISE, and they have all the issues I mentioned (plus the potential to fail completely).

The Liquid coolers are actually louder under normal usage than the difference shown here. The Noctua is SILENT under most usage (I stopped and started it with my finger), and the liquid coolers usually have louder fans as well as the pump.

I have a good alternative in air cooling if you do not want to use the NHD14 being a large weighty twin tower heatsink

The NZXK Havik 140
it is a single tower heatsink and performs almost as well as the NHD14
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuI5NLOpRmo
also 150$ for the h100I
89$ for the NHD14
$69 for the NZXT Havik 140

i have this cpu cooler and it is quiet and performs exceptionally well , i highly recommend it

You know the CPU you have is 100% safe up to 72c right? and if it stays in the 50s that's GREAT. You are already winning. You have no need for some extra cooler. You are not extending the life of the CPU by keeping it 10c cooler.

Get a coolermaster Hyper 21 EVO. (VERY good and inexpensive air cooler) and then use all the leftover money for something that will actually make a difference like an SSD or something. OR put it towards a better/new GPU.

Also, don't expect anything less than about 26-27c at idle as it is thermally impossible to get a CPU any closer to room temperature without refrigerated cooling.

i see. only the cooler is the one missing in my new computer. :) i still don't have ssds yet though. i have 8gb crucial single stick 1600mhz and a zotac gtx 770 4gb. Ok, so ill just go get the Hyper 212X in the store? they don't have evos. They only have 3 air coolers, ice blade pro, 212X and NHD14.

will the 212X help lower down case temps too? my case already have fans in it except the top part where you can put 2 140mm fans side by side. I was saving it because someone might recommend an h100i. If i'll buy the 212X, what should i do about the top part of my case?

ok. what brand would you suggest for case fans? i have 1x120mm deepcool led fan bottom(intake), 1x120mm same brand fan front (intake), 1x120mm same brand fan rear(exhaust). I'm still looking for good two good 140mm fans for the top part. Edit: they are all 1300 rpm fans and they are quiet. I don't really mind if it's a little bit noisy, the electric fan in my room is already loud anyway. I also put my CPU in the table, beside my monitor, so it's not on the floor. Is it safe that i removed the mesh/screen at the bottom fan(intake)? It impedes the fan and i get less cooling.
