I have an HP pavilion dv6809wm laptop that the windows activation key was stolen and used by the thief. The computers grace period for using windows ended while I was attempting to buy a new key. Not being able to use windows doesn't bother me, especially since they could not wait for me to complete a transaction through our fastest local DSL (Damn Slow Lane) connection. But I would like to install Linux. So how do I get this thing to see it's own HDD and install the operating system off of a DVD? Thank you for reading this and any advise that you may send my way

Burn (iso mode) Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution using
http://www.imgburn.com/

Or 'burn' to a USB using LiLi

Thank you for the help, but this still does not get the bios to recognize the fact that there is a hard drive installed. Unless I screwed up. A very real possibility.
