Hi, I'm 13 and I want to build a computer but my dad won't let me because he thinks that if something goes wrong that would be it.

So can you tell me if it is easy to build a computer and if something did go wrong would it be easy to get the part replaced kinda?

And can you put some other reasons I could use to persuade him?

Oh and yeah, I do know someone who has built 5 computers before!

Is it easy - yes it is. You just have to read the manual 100 times before starting. Some easy rules:
1 - ground yourself. Touch a metal heater or something. Don't wear wool or synthetics. They produce static electricity.
2 - If you need to put force to make it fit - then you are doing something wrong.
3 - Make your research. Look at what components you have and search for tutorials how to install them.
4 - If you never did it before - ask someone who did for tips or to help you out.

And how easy is it to replace them - very hard. If you damage something during improper installation - it is your fault and most likely you will not get a replacement.

I've built 3 or 4 computers over the last 15 years.

I have below average intelligence, bad eye sight, and generally speaking, very bad at any handy work.

With all that said, building a computer is a breeze. Just follow a well written guide that's posted here, or a youtube video, step by step.

That's solid advice above. As for the old man, I would stress what a great learning experience it would be, and you could have him help a little if he would be more comfortable. Of course establishing a budget is important too, Building yourself is not really the least expensive way to go, however there are deals to be had-I recommend visiting newegg.com and taking a look at their combo deals. They really have some nice discounts, and the newegg community in general does excellent product reviews.

Don't forget when doing the budget to include any things like speakers, mouse and keyboard, etc. And also account for shipping. I think if you went to your Dad with a proposal that shows you've done your homework and have a plan and budget prepared, he will be more likely to take you seriously. And of course Tom's hardware forums are full of experts willing to help.

I also recommend checking out the computer magazines at the store, many of them have articles about building your own and they are written for beginners.
Good Luck!
