Hi I recently purchased MSI R9 280X to replace my burnt out xfx 7870. The new card works perfect but when I play intense games like Crysis 3 or GW2. The psu fan spins at full speed and it gets very noisy. Never had this issue with the 7870 should I buy a psu with higher wattage?? I understand the new card draws 25W more than the old card. 7870=225w. 280x=250w

Specs: i5 3570k stock
Msi r9 280x
Corsair vengeance LP 8gb ddr3
Gigabyte z77 d3h
2tb seagate hard drive

Well, that's a solid 80+ rated PSU there, so it should eb capable of a maximum draw of 480w. Let's see how much power your other components can draw at peak load:

Nope. Even at 100%, worst-case-scenario, all-out load, your components don't come close to what the full limits of the PSU should be. Your PSU may be having other problems though: is it old, or dusty?

My overall advice would be this: it's unlikely your PSU is being over-loaded, but if you are worried about it, it's better to be safe than sorry. A good quality replacement won't cost you too much...

That is a 600W power supply wich means It can provide 600W the 80 plus means it needs 750W from the wall to provide 600W, the Wattage on a psu is the max loadout it can provide.

But regarding the PSU, it should not stress the R9 280x even at 100%
