Hello Network Gurus, Please help...

What I'm trying to do:
Extend wired (Cat5e) connection to the living room using a Switch (NETGEAR FS105)

My Setup
I have a cat5 that runs from a router (NETGEAR WNDR4300) to the living room and connects to the switch. I have a Laptop (Win7) and a PC (XP SP3) that connects to the switch. Neither the laptop or the PC gets access to the network. I know XP is not supported anymore, and I need to upgrade. I'm working on this...

The issue
I get a message from both the laptop and PC "Limited or no connectivity..." and does not connect to the network.

What I suspected was the cause of the Issue:

1. Cat5 from the router to the switch - I cut and crimped the Cat5. So I thought I may have done it wrong. I have determined that this is NOT the issue because, when I connect this cable directly to the PC or the laptop, they both connect to the internet, and neither one displays the limited or no connectivity error message.

2. Bad Cat5 from Switch to the PCs - Not likely because the Cat5 works when I connect my laptop directly to the router.

3. Bad Switch - I have determined this is not the issue because, I had a spare switch, a brand new one in the box. The new switch is of the same make/model. Both Switch results in the same issue.

What I've done so far
Ip release / renew
Reboot Router and Switch
Reimage my XP box just for giggles..

I'm not a network guru by any means, so I'm totally baffled. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You need to manually configure the IPv4 ip address, gateway address and DNS on both pc.

Because the router is giving them one ip address and the switch box is sending it to two pc.

Example: pc 1
192.168.0.1 ip address
255.255.255.0 subnet mask
192.168.254.254 gateway

Pc 2
192.168.0.2 ip address
255.255.255.0 subnet
192.168.254.254 gateway

Tried Static IP, it does not display the "Limited connectivity..." message, but still does not connect to the network or the internet. Just wondering, what should be the default gateway, I put in my routers address (192.168.1.1) which is what other PCs that can connect to the internet is using.. Also not sure what would be the DNS, I just copied that from the other PCs as well. It's still not working..ugh!

I did check and the switch does not have any labelled ports. The switch has auto uplink so technically I could use any of the ports. I have moved the cat5 to all ports on the switch, but it did not make a difference. And yes the LEDs light up and even blink when the cables are plugged in.
