I've made a new build that I have been using for the past 2 months. I recently heard a crackling sound followed with a smoke smell but it seems to work fine. Even though the build was working fine i immediately unplugged it to avoid further damage. I checked my motherboard and graphics card for any marks or blown capacitors but no signs.

My build is:

CPU: Intel i5 4670K (with stock cooler)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-z87X-SLI
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1866
GPU: Msi GTX 760
Case: Antec Lanboy Air
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
PSU: Corsair CX600M

Please help!

Must be the power supply then. I wouldn't even risk using it anymore as it can start a fire...

I've heard both good and bad things about those Corsair Builders CX Power Supplies. People here seem to have nothing but bad things to say, although on other sites they're recommended often, I've seen the cheap 430w's used in i5 and gtx 660ti level gaming pc's without a problem, and they even got good reviews from the respected johnnyguru PSU review site.

It can happen to anything though, my friend had the same expensive corsair hx750w PSU that I have, and his blew up......thankfully it didn't fry any component with it...but still. Anything can break, being more expensive doesn't always mean it'll last longer.

edit: and another friend I know used that often recommended on a budget EVGA bronze certified PSU, 500w I think it was, it blew up, and he put a Corsair Builder PSU in I recommended and it's been fine for months now.

Is there a power supply you recommend to replace my existing one.
