Ok not really sure whats goin on but recently my cpu will go from 26-32C when idling to upwards of 85C+ when gaming causing it to overheat and shut off. Just put new thermal paste on and case and chord management shouldnt be a problem either. Any ideas? I will post pics and system info if needed.

IF you just put new thermal paste on, did you put too much? Too little? Did you secure the heatsink correctly?

What is your cooling setup like? Remember more air going out than in.

I know i didnt use too much or too little. i used almost half of a plunger of artic silver. Had problems before putting new paste on as well. thats why i tried repasting it. Heatsink is definitely secured. I even etched it with sandpaper grit. I have 2 120mm fans taking in air in the front and one 120mm going out in the back. heatsink and fan on cpu are stock.

Half the tube is WAAAAAY too much. Try using about a pea sized dot and scrape it even with a credit card. Super thin. Thermal paste is only supposed to fill in air gaps between the two metals.

No don't spread it out evenly, let the heatsink spread it.

Do you have any other exhaust fan slots on the top of your case? If so move one of the front 120mm fans to the top.

Some people like to do it that way and others my way. Neither is wrong and "experts" disagree, but the idea is to use an unbelievably small amount. Less than everyone initially thinks. Metal transfers heat better than the thermal compound and that's likely your problem.

Ok i actually have two more slots up top. I have extra fans lying around that just don't fit the aesthetic so i didn't use em could i just slap two more up top n help out?

Ok I will try that ill post idle and load temps from core temp after as well. I'm too scared to start gaming again until it is fixed.
Ok fans are in and theres really no improvement. idle is sittin at 25-31 and im about to put it under load and see what happens.

Ok so after fans idle temp went down about only 1-2 degrees and under load it still wanted to hit 80+ i stopped before it shut my comp off again this time. I also had fans set at 65% min. and as soon as it hits 50C 100%. Should i just buy a liquid cooling setup and see if that will solve my problem?

Sound like it could be time to upgrade your cooler. Is this problem new or has it always been an issue?

well it seems to be happening after a move. this building im in now is about 10 degrees hotter always than my last one was. I was thinking maybe that would be helping it heat up real quick and im sure it is a bit but shouldn't be this much. I just a few minutes ago had the idea to turn off turbo mode in bios and sure enough i can make it through a whole LoL match now. So im thinking the voltage it's pushing in turbo mode is too high. So until i get a good liquid cooling solution no OC or turbo mode for me.
