Abandon a laptop screen?

I'm using my kid's old Dell 1505 laptop as a Linux sandbox. It doesn't work badly, for an old war horse, but there's an irritating line of dead pixels about 3" from the top which drives me nuts.

I know, it's a short drive.

My question is, does the computer care if the screen is there at all? I have a spare monitor and a Cat 5 connection for it, so all I need is the keyboard/guts half of the machine. Unless the system checks that the lid is present....

Any ideas, hardware experts?

It doesn't particularly need the lid/screen but you will probably have to disassemble the entire laptop to be able to take off the screen and the Wi-Fi antenna is probably in the top portion as well. you can look up and see if your laptop has a service manual that will tell you more in depth how to take the screen apart/off.
Here's an actual link to the service manual.

The only interlocking device seems to be the standby switch, which I assumes puts the box in standby/sleep/hibernate when one closes the lid. I can live without that. I'd just put the box on the floor and attach a keyboard, monitor, and mouse if I didn't need access to switches, ports, and CD drives frequently--a sandbox needs to be on and off a lot, with various data ports used at various times. Still, it looks like chucking the lid won't create any heartburn. When this box dies, it's off to the e-cycling center anyway. Thanks for the lightning response and the link!
