It happens rarely but it still bothers me. I have my pc setup like so, that the display turns off after 1 minute of inactivity. So normally, when I come back on my computer, I move my mouse a little bit and the monitor turns back on. Simple. But from time to time, my monitor won't display even after I press a key on the keyboard, unplug and plug the dvi connector, power connector. When I reset my computer (via reset button) the monitor works normally again. As I said, I happens rarely, but it's annoying as fu**.
Here are my pc specs:
MSI B85-G43 gaming mobo
Intel core i5 4670k cpu
Sapphire r9280x vapor-x gpu (note the light and fans are still on even when the monitor won't display anything)
Samsung 840 evo 128 SSD
Gigabyte GreenMax 650 wat 80 bronze certified PSU
Samsung SyncMaster P2250 (4 years old) monitor

Hmm. I have had a very rare thing happen to me that was similar. I think it's just a Windows bug, and the only thing you can do is reset the system.

Doesn't your monitor ever turn off when your reading or watching a video? 1 minute is kind of extreme.

Well I like that it turns off so quickly. If I am watching a video it doesn't turn off, it detects i'm playing something (youtube, southpark, movies....)
For the problem I thought that I'll have to buy a new monitor, but like you say, that's a windows bug, it seems odd since I didn't have any such problems before I upgraded my pc. Strange I will say, strange...

I don't think it's the monitor that is the problem. Don't get a new one, because it won't fix anything.

All I can say is, save your work often and change your 1 minute setting when backing up your PC, LOL!
