What is the load temp? That is what really matters and is that a reference or aftermarket cooler?

The r9 290/290x reference coolers run quite hot and loud.

Those are totally normal temps with the reference blower cooler.

I think that R9 290 is designed to run at 95 degrees so no worries. Also you may consider getting afterarket cooler as reference indeed sounds like hairdryer :p

It will throttle down the clock speed to maintain that temp, especially if you case doesnt have good airflow and its harder for the card to keep below 95'C.

I recommend the Kraken G10 + and AIO liquid cooler (and a few small heatsinks for vram and VRMs). will be much cooler, wont throttle so you can overclock and a huge amount quieter.

Damn, when I downloaded msi afterburner and set the fan to 100 my gpu was at 36c. I configured a custom fan profile that basically has the fan running at 35% minimum, and the fan speed always stays 5 percent faster than the current temp. Just got done playing Cod ghosts for 5 hours and the gpu never got hotter than 70. Reference fan, not over clOcked. It is a bit noisy, but I play with head phones. Before I had afterburner, the stock fan would only spin at 40% max, and I was running the gpu up to 95c and getting black screens after about a hour of playing. Now I don't have that problem playing with settings on high and extra. Check out this other post I made about cooling, maybe it will help. I'll get the link and repost it.
