Cannot connect Windows 7 PC to internet through ethernet

I am having complications setting up an ethernet connection. When I check my network adapters, there is no option for a wired network and plugging in the ethernet cable brings up a notification to install a driver, but fails because it can't find one. The cable works perfectly, plugged it into a different laptop so I know it works, but the PC is just not picking it up.
I have a MSI GD-65 motherboard and there doesn't seem to be much support from MSI in regards to ethernet connections because I suppose that they are supposed to connect automatically. Any ideas as to how I can get my PC connected? Thanks

  1. The LAN adapter needs a driver before it will work.
Go to MSI, find the specific motherboard, and download the right driver. Put it on a USB stick, and install in the target PC.
  2. I don't see any drivers associated with the product I have. Here is the site that I navigated to:
    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87GD65_GAMING.html#overview
I can't find any LAN adapter drivers and I don't know what product is in the motherboard itself. What should I do now?

MSI doesn't make it easy, but go here:
    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87GD65_GAMING.html#download

    Select "Driver'
Scroll down to 'Killer Network Driver'
    Download the file
    http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/Killer_network_win78.zip
  4. After installing this I lost my wireless adapter and the LAN adapter still does not work. So now the one way of connecting to the internet that I have is gone.

Well, that's weird. Can you go back to an earlier restore point, when the WiFi worked?
