Hp m8425f speakers detected but no sound

I have been trying to fix it by looking at other posts but it is no good.

i have updated everything and tried reformatting but it is still not working.

The back panel is detecting it but no sound. and in the front panel, it does not detect at all. The speakers do work

also not sure if this is the right category to post

first thing to check is in sound properties. New driver installs for the video card will set the VC hdmi as the default playback device.
Make sure the onboard chipset or speakers( depending on windows version) is set as the default device.

XP start -settings-control panel -sound
Vista &Win 7 start -control panel- sounds
Windows 8 ?????
This will get you to the sound settings panel. Once there set the onboard Audio or ALC8885 or speakers to the default playback device.
