I avoided Amazon cause Texas is sales tax state. I am only using 120 gb on current pc so not too worried about 250gb ssd. The one thing slightly concerned about is the cooler, but I do not plan to OC at the moment

do you plan on running sli in the future? if not you could drop down to a lower tier motherboard and save $30-50. also the xfx pro 750w is an awesome power supply but again not necessary if your not going to have dual graphics cards. you could drop down to a high quality $65 antec high current gamer 620w and save another $30. the case also has some features that you likely may never need and you could save $25-35 by getting a still great but very usable case, but thats personal and you may just like the look of the case. the cm hyper 212 evo is a great cooler and would offer 4.3ghz +/- .1ghz overclock without issues. if your not going to overclock then its going to keep the 4670k nice and cool while being whisper quiet... so leave that in there to give you the option for a modest but worthwhile overclock. other than that, its a nice quality build.

I thought about going with the Extreme Pro, but just everything I keep reading is the Extreme4 was just so great, and I made the mistake of last computer getting it with an Asus P5N-T Deluxe based on it being an Asus only, and found out later on it was crap. My computer will still freeze on occasion and I have changed out the vid cards, psu, drivers, operating system, memtested the ram, and the only thing I have narrowed it down to is that board.. I do not want that again lol

The case I changed because I originally was going to get a CoolerMaster HAF912 which I know is a good cooling case, but people on the board said I was crazy for doing that so I changed to what got the most recommendations lol

PSU was the one issue I had gone cheaper on in the past and paid. I had an SLI set up originally on my last computer with an 850W psu that just degraded on me. When I posted earlier some suggested going 850W which I knew was crazy even though I was not near the expert. I only saw one person suggest a 650W when I first posted my build so I went with 750W.

I do like that the system does have some flexiblity though. I know that this system is WAAAY overkill for mmos, but it should last a long time lol. Plus have flexibilty some radical changes come and need to upgrade... I do not like though that I could have saved another $85 or so. Originally I had a 770 as my card, but they said go with 780 so I went that way, I was saved money on going with the 212 EVO vs a FRIO though, and I was told that 16gb of RAM was unnecesarry and to downgrade to 8 gb

I suppose I can just get a Seagate HDD if I need more space. I also keep a Seagate external 1TB drive with me at all times too. Will be slower, but meh

Any advice on actually building it? I read the the forum sticky on building. I have changed out vid cars, psu, and ram before. I have not messed with mobos and cpus, and heatsinks. I am a bit concerned on doing the thermal paste application correctly. Also about messing with BIOs. I mean I have read a good bit on how to overlock in BIOs since I am always considering it, and this has to be easier, but still..

Am I overworrying about application of thermal paste?

just slightly less than a pea size on there, smooth out with a razorblade, removing excess so just a very thin layer and then put on heatsink?

Should I literally put the razorblade to the top of the CPU and lightly scrape or slightly over it to give a thicker layer. Bit concerned I will scrape too much off and not enough paste will fill the gaps between cooler

Youll want a thin layer but not too thin, try and get the feel for it you dont at any cost want to have the thermal paste leak to the sides in which case putting too much with a slightly heavy cooler such as the CM hyper 212 EVO would do just that, touch the pins at the bottom of the CPU or use any weak fiber material to work with the CPU. If the TP leaks to the side while putting the fan on you 'll have to remove it back up again and scrape it off the side gently. Youll need to push the Hyper 212 firmly in not too strong though about 15 - 20 pounds per square inch and let gravity do the rest. I tend to use a small glass plate or an unused plastic ruler to press on the TP that way one can see through it to make sure... Remember put the CPU, the cpu cooler and RAM in the mobo first before puttng it in the case then last of all the GPU. All in all great build, also have a look at what nikoli said, and dont you want an internal HDD like WD or Seagate?

Well the Samsung HDD is 250 gigs. Right now I am only using 120 gigs of memory with 8 years of stuff on it. This particular computer is realy only used for Quickbooks and mmos. So I do not need that much space. I would not be surprised if I do add a HDD, I just figured I would hold off a bit since I upgraded to a 580 over a 570 and wanted to trim a bit of money.

Back to the subject of paste, how do I now if the layer is thick enough? Is a rice kernal to a pea size about accurate as to amount?

Seems like everyone has a different method of putting it on. I have seen

1. simply put it on and let cooler pressure move it around. This seems the worst to me.

2. use a razor blade to smear over and easily get up excess.

3. use a plastic baggy to smear around

4. use a qtip. sounds bad to me cause of fibers

5. glass plate now. I like that one, but finding one small enough. maybe cutting up, or using the plastic container of the CPU container or RAM packaging?

Am I just overthinking this? Put it on, smear it over. as long as its not dripping downt he sides its good, but do not scrape it all off.

I already have the stuff shipped, or I would cut back on board, psu, and case. The first threat I opened got me hammered on going too low on the case, and everyone suggested that mobo. Giving my kid my old computer since he does not have one and is 12, just getting into gaming. His bday is next week so trying to get this built before then lol, but yea I am feeling stupid on wasting $85 extra on those peices

BTW, you guys suggest plugging everything into the psu or the mobo. case fans etc. Current computer I noticed had everything plugged into psu. Seems like board would make more sense so it had control over it, and could made readings better
