How Do I Overclock My i7 4770k to 4.2GHz?

Solution

I've got a Maximus VI hero Mobo and all I did was set CPU level up to 4.2 and it has the rest on auto. That said you have to set the default low fan rpm to 300 from 600 or it wont boot right..
I've tried 4.4 but I can't get it stable. I've got a h100i cooler, not sure what else I can do aside from getting a different thermal paste. Prime 95 just crashed my computer so whatever.

read the rog guides

if you don't manually adjust voltage of course you won't get any higher than 4.2ghz but with a bit extra Vcore there is a good chance you can get 4.4ghz stable
