Back in the day I was around 2004 I had a Windows 2000 The PC had a virus on it, I did not know about PC's at the age of 12 since I was learning about PC's and so on.
We called this tech we told them there was a virus on our PC.
He replied what OS we used we told them Windows 2000.
For some strange reason he said there a photo on your desktop the photo was Tom And Jerry cartoon. It was true I remember saving a Tom And Jerry photo since I loved that TV Show allot.

But the question bugs me for years now how did that tech know what I had on my desktop?
there's no way he could have done a remote desktop thing, my possible guess it he was a hacker maybe? Tapped into the PC to infiltrate or spy on the PC.

He just gave us some advice to get McAfee Anti Virus software or Reformat the PC then install the anti virus software to stay protected.

Weird experience huh?
Oh and also the the tech was some person we called from a phone book we had to wait 1 hour for him to get back to us.

Was it an ISP tech, or just some random unaffiliated tech?

You might be misremembering things. He would have been given access or shown the PC

He was using something similar to log-me-in or some other remote software to gain access to your computer.
