I have a dell inspiron 537 case, which is micro-atx form factor, or thats what dell says anyways. Im upgrading to another motherboard which is also micro atx but from the pictures it looks like it has different places for usb/hdmi/vga ports, so my question is, are all micro atx motherboards/cases the same?

The port arrangement in the back of the board isn't part of the ATX or micro-ATX specs. With a retail motherboard in a retail case the board will come with a metal shield made to fit it's specific port arrangement which fits into a rectangular slot cut into the rear of the case. Some pre-built PCs like Dell have a case with a solid rear plate which isn't removable or swappable, so you should check that first.

Thanks for the quick response, so does that mean motherboards come with a rear back panel that fits the motherboard?

The board does and retail cases have a cutout for it. Not all pre-built PC cases di though

Yes it appears that shield is removable. It should 'pop' out with a push after the board is removed.
