Hello all,

I am planning on taking apart my Acer 5750G laptop to reapply thermal paste and install a new fan. I purchased a new fan without the heatsink, is it possible to remove the old fan from the heat sink and install the new one?, or are they soldered together? Any one have any idea about this?

Thanks in advance,
Sami

Solution
Yup, you can use a nose pliers to get the screw out if the head is visible and you're good with the pliers.
No risk of damaging the mobo unless you miss the head or don't get a proper grip on the visible portion of the head.
Now that's a major issue......you'll need to remove the whole HSF assembly, take to a guy who can weld a welding rod onto that screw and remove it for you. Highly specialized and low heat weld making sure the copper doesn't melt ..... those screws are too damn small, you'll need to be MIGHTY careful.

Alright, thanks for the advice. One thing though, part of the screw is visible is it safe to use a pair of thin pliers and rotate the screw carefully? or will it damage the motherboard? and is there a way to install the fan without removing the head sink?

Thanks for help man, I completely disassembled the laptop and then I realized I bought the wrong part number, (2 different fans for same model of laptop, go figure right?), guess I have to wait 3 weeks for the new fan to come in.
