i just bought a sandisk sdhc 16gb memory card for my nikon l820. upon inserting the card the camera displayed "card cannot be used". This particular card was listed as acceptable or approved cards for this camera by nikon. Why is the camera displaying this message and unable too read this card?

It could just be a bad card. Did you try and use the camera to format the card?

no, i haven't. my laptop has a sd reader so i installed the card and it showed up. went into properties and couldn't find any descrepencies with it. I just recently moved and havent been able too locate the users manual too the camera(if i still have it) so i dont have the procedure too format thru the camera. haven't had any succss downloading it from the website either. If you're able too step me thru this process i would greatly appreciate it. I'm starting too fear it may be the camera malfunctioning.

Sandisk, Toshiba, Panasonic, and Lexar are approved SDHC cards, and you stated that you have a Sandisk card. This should be ok. Unfortunately there are a lot of fake cards out on the market; very hard to recognize as fakes. From where did you buy your card?
