Upgrading motherboard help

hi i am going to be upgrading my motherboard and am wondering if i will need to reinstall windows

most likely yes, but you can try with your current hard drive first, just upgrade the mobo and plug in your hdd and see if it boots, and if not, you will need to reinstal it. and, if you have an OEM copy of windows, you cant use your lisence again as they are tied to the mobo. if you have retail windows, then you can just reinstall and put your license key in and it will work.

ok and what does oem copy and if i need to reinstall would i have to remove the old copy from my hard drive or would i just leave it on?

where did you buy windows from? can you post a link if it was online? and if you have to reinstall windows, you will probably have to reformat the hard drive which deletes everything on it.

wow, that is a lot of info on there XD but, it did say towards the bottom that it is an OEM copy, so if you have to reistall it you will also have to buy a new license :/ what mobo upgrade are you doing? what is your current and future specs?

Fx 8320

well, you will most likely have to re install windows, meaning you will need to buy a new license.

you dont have to reseat it, just reformat it. you can do it when you go to install windows again, it should ask you where you want to install it, and just delete any partions so you only have 1 option, then format it.
