Hey guys, so here's the thing.

I used have a working machine with ubuntu and windows 7 on it
But my computer fried, so I had to get a new rig.

I installed windows 7 on a new ssd drive.
Then I tried getting into ubuntu again, for some reason it wouldn't recognize my keyboard, I figured it had to do with getting a new mother board.
So I used windows 7 to reformat the old drive. (probably not a good idea)

Now, in windows 7 I can see my old drive empty and working just fine, it recognizes it and everything.
But now I'm trying to re install ubuntu on my old drive, and the installer doesn't recognize it, it tries to install ubuntu on my ssd drive. Any thoughts?

You're right, not a good idea, coulda fixed you right up with boot-repair.
Now, if you have data to recover use testdisk, you might even be able to recover the partition and then use boot-repair.

If not then you need to reinstall Ubuntu, now would be a good time to upgrade to 14.04. When it asks side by side choose other and make the other drive your mount point "/"
