I am updating the OS of a decent midrage computer to be used primarily for light office work. Emails, word, excel, stuff like that. and was wondering if i could possibly run Win 8.1 on the CPU without having to worry about it being too slow. I've looked at other threads but i want a definitive answer.

That'll work fine. Windows 8 runs on less than that. Take a look at the system requirements posted on Microsoft's website: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/system-requirements

Could you please post the model number. The speed will make the difference.

If you don't know the model number go to computer then system properties and please post it. (For Windows 7)
