I'm looking for a monitor for gaming that is around $200 and 20-24 inches with atleast 1 HDMI port. Been looking for a little while and can't seem to find one with good reviews and don't want to buy one that seems nice but then breaks or anything like that.

Do you want a regular TN panel, or an IPS? Generally TN panels are better for gaming, while IPS monitors have better colors they are better for browsing/watching movies.

Have you even played on a gaming-oriented TN panel before? If not, please don't state your personal opinion as fact.

There is a significant difference when using a monitor that is built for gamers. There is also a reason why NONE of the gaming-oriented monitors use IPS panels... it's not as good for gaming. Period.

My ASUS VG248QE blows the pants off any other monitor I've ever used, even if I set it to 60hz, which I have done for comparisons.

??

Neither of those are gaming-oriented monitors... so comparing them is completely pointless. They aren't designed for fast performance, so you wouldn't see much of a performance difference. TN panels draw faster than IPS panels... which is why there are no IPS gaming monitors.

This isn't an IPS gaming monitor?

Somehow I think there is...wow.

I was comparing TN vs PLS/IPS both @ 60Hz with 2ms vs 5ms, there is a point comparing them, The sharpness and crispness of IPS is far better, with the ms response time factor worthless.

Only advantage to TN is 120/144Hz, which there are going to be IPS screens that fast soon also.

That's not really a gaming monitor. It's a 3D monitor that they decided they could market towards gamers as well. It was not built from the ground up as a gaming monitor. In fact, the product page hardly mentions gaming at all, except that you can play games in 3D.

Compare that to the VG248QE product page, and you will see what I mean. Even if you throw the 144hz out of the picture, it specifically states lower latency, low response times, etc while the one you linked doesn't even have a single mention of response time which is a very basic component to a gaming monitor.

I know where you are going, I agree (only for current day age). But don't you see where this is projected in the future is what i am trying to say, IPS are going to be as fast in the future, and then IPS will be better for gaming. Could? It IS a gaming IPS screen, may not SAY it but it sure has images to support that.

I completely agree that in the future, IPS will be suited for gaming, or even a new panel type that hasn't been created yet. But as of right now, IPS cannot match the gaming performance of a TN that is designed for gaming.
