So I was looking for a graphics card to suit my gaming needs and I decided to go for the NVIDIA GTX 780 from EVGA. I will only use one monitor at a resolution of 1680 by 1050 (60Hz refresh rate) so should I pay an extra 10 bucks for the 6 GB version? There was a deal and it may even be locked at that price so with one display I don't know if I can get more performance out of a single 780. Maybe in the future I could get a multi-monitor setup but I feel that 6GB is a bit too overkill. What do you guys think?

Is it worth it for one monitor?
How much would the extra 3GB affect performance if I play games on ultra an the highest settings with texture?

No. With 1 monitor(and less than 1920x1080) a 2GB GPU is all you really need.

The GTX 780 is already overkill for that resolution, you're fine with 3GB

For one monitor less than 1080p no way. The 6Gb is for 4K and multimonitor setups. For $10 though you might as well if you think you will do multimonitor in the nearish future.

no need but again for only $10 extra I would it just because the resell value would be higher. Though if its only $10 for the memory sounds like your paying too much for the 3GB version.

yea if its only $10 more i would definetely go with the 6GB. Even if you dont plan on it now, it leaves the option open for the future

If I may ask, how much are you paying for the 780? At the current res you're playing at, the 770 would be a better fit, for cheaper, if you were looking to save some money.

Truth is that it's on sale or something...the GTX780 3GB is at a normal price. Usually an extra 3 GB should result in at least 100 bucks extra...but I donnoe, I'm getting prices from a different retailer, not EVGA.

I'm only looking to get the 780 because I may upgrade my monitor real soon and a 770 is great too, but I personally think I can wait for the 800 series GPUs. It will take some time because I plan to build my pc in the summer where the new Intel 5th gen CPUS will come and I can't wait.

Yeah, that was the word, but I will just get one of Intel's haswell refresh processors, specifically either the i5 4690k or i7 4790k. The intel z97 chipsets on mobos are compatible with 5th gen processors if I ever choose to upgrade again, but either way I will build with whatever I have in the summer. Living in Canada makes everything come a lot later than in the US and a lot more expensive. -_-
