Hello Formumites,

I am in need of help as my new PC would frequently freeze up when playing games on steam. Here is a little background information.

1) I just got finished with this PC a little over a week ago.
2) Specs:

Case: Silverstone tj04-e
CPU: Intel Core i5 - 4570
Motherboard: B85-G43
GPU: Nvidia gtx750 ti 2gb
PSU: Corsair 850 watt ~ Gold Rated
RAM: (2x4gb) Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
CPU cooler: Intel Stock cooling fan (lol.)
Fans: 3 Silverstone stock case fans (2 instake, 1 exhaust)

3) I have done the usual such as cleaning the registry in case of corrupt files. I also doubt that dust in the system is a problem as it is rather new.

I notice that my PC would often freeze while playing any sort of games on steam. It tends to usually happen when there is large frame rate spike eg) Explosion in Fallout New Vegas, CS GO rapid zoom in on another player model after I die, TF2 playing demoman and reloading while detonating sticky grenades. Any sort of help would be great.

Thanks in advance,

TheAmerican555.

Well, first of all, do you have nvidia geforce experience manger? A link to that is here: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience
If your drivers for your gpu, check your cpu (search up intel i5 4570 drivers)
If you are still having problems, check your internet connection. It could be because of the new law passed by fcc to limit net neutrality, which is messing up everyones internet.

So it has nothing to do with Hardware? For a second I thought I had to call for an RMA that'll be a major pain in the posterior.

It could, But for a game freezing, I would think that would be an internet or software problem. Plus, your components are pretty new, so I dont think it is a hardware issue.

Why'd you get a 850 watt PSU for a 300-350 watt system?

Yeah, make sure you've got all the right drivers for your mobo/gpu:

Was thinking the same thing about the PSU. I feel like you went a little overboard with the psu

Haha yea I kind of just realized that... How would you guys recommend me to go about maximizing my PSU's full potential?

Buy a better GPU or sli the 750 ti you already have. That will help you squeeze out more juice from the PSU

i faced lots of issues this month on my new pc so i can help abit , due solving alot of problems that happened with me recently, let me ask , what kind of games are u playing ? and at what setting inside the game ,could u write the video/graphic setting in the games ? like resolution/anti aliasing/screen refresh rate ,if you can find the fps "frame per seconds" number also provide it , all of it , beside Nvidia control panel setting , and do u have the last bios update for your mother board?

The games I play are mainly CS GO, Fallout New Vegas, and TF2. I have encountered freezing with all of them particularly it seems when there are a lot of activity on the screen. I play all 3 games with the Nvidia optimization option so my guesses are that everything is tuned up to ultra settings. I am not sure as to what my FPS is as I have not got around to actually doing that but my guesses are that it is around 40-50 fps. Also my screen is the ASUS 147-H so it runs at a 2ms refresh rate.

Yes, everything on the system is up to date.

Hmm what's your screen refresh rate? 120., 144? I had some issues before on cod black ops 2, I did the same thing on using nvidia experience optimization, but realised that the anti aliasing option was on TXAA, it takes a lot of performance, so I changed that to MSAA and had no issues on cod black ops, no more crashing pc, I've read about the anti aliasing on lot of random sites, besides on CS global offensive, I had also some issues with crashes, so I did the same to the options, MSAA for anti aliasing and the commands on the console, fps_max 144, which match my screen refresh rate, it was 300, kinda pointless and taking a lot of use on performance, make sure you disable FXAA on the video setting on nvidia panel and in the games, I read it's out dated just stick with the MSAA X2 or x4 and see

btw do u use the vsync option? if u do just disable it on both nvidia panel/ingame .

How do I disable Vsync from the Nvidia panel? It seems that I can only turn Vsync-off from each respective game... ;(

You right click and go to the nvidia control panel. Then, go to Manage 3d Settings. Once their, click on global settings and scroll all the way down. It should say Vertical Vsync and next to that it should say on or use 3d settings. Click on the phrase and go to off.
