I'm planning on getting a cheap CPU, and I would like to know which is better. Intel i3-4130 Dual-Core
Vs.
AMD Athlon x4 750k Quad-Core
Please help? :)

It takes quite a bit of overclocking to get the most out of the FM2 Athlons, so I'm going to recommend the i3. It's much faster out of the box.

Unless overclocking is your thing?

If you can overclock, go with the 750k, as it will outclass the i3 by quite a bit.

That being said, if you're looking for cheap, also consider a Pentium. They're just i3s at a slightly slower clock rate and without hyperthreading. I have a Pentium G2120 in my media PC and it does an incredible job with whatever I throw at it, including gaming and emulation.

As I am someone with a 5GHz Athlon 760K who regularly benches, I'd have to disagree with that. In SOME things, the Athlon X4 can pull ahead, but I definitley would say that the i3 is faster at most things even if the Athlon is OC'd to about 4.3GHz.

I do agree with Pentium :)

The i3 may be slower after the x4 is overclocked..but you dont have a decent upgrade path with the amd cpu.

The i3 has faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar stronger single core performance no matter how much the Athlon is overclocked. The Athlon is not that bad though, there's just no upgrade path from there. I would go i3 all the way.

It really depends on what games your playing...if your Just playing BF4 than the Athlon 760K will probably perform better as AMD and Dice have optimizations not just for GPUs but for the CPUs as well, most notably the "Piledriver" architecture. You can google "AMD deal with Dice" and get many hits. right now More cores is better. DX12 and Mantle may have better CPU utilization and even make better use of HT. But the i3 4130 will offer a better over experience when using your PC. The Single threaded performance is better than any AMD CPU. And For some people that is a big deal as most everyday applications single threaded. And right now with many DX11 games the game engine is really putting most of the work on one core. Good Example Dues Ex Human Revolution, often the games puts about 90% on one core and about 50% on another and the other 2 I use get the "left overs" using an i5 3570k. I hope I could help even though I may have raised more question with this long and not so needed post. Persally I would take the i3 4130 anyday over any quad core AMD

I've decided to go with Intel, but I decided on an i5 processor. So I made to part lists, and I would like to know which is better for running modern games while streaming /recording. And for video editing and photoshop. Here are the two part lists: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cam4hook/saved/4C5t
