I have an HP Pavillion laptop and a 4 gig PNY usb drive, and its setup to run a live booted linux distro (slitaz dev and it will wipe my phone and root it).

I have tried all three usb ports on my laptop, and tried toggling the legacy mode on and off, but i still cant boot into the linux distro, OR the 12.04 live boot ubuntu distro. I am a complete noob to any computer hacking and i would appreciate any help that i can get!

I believe that my windows 8.1 is installed in the UEFI Format, if that helps!

Go into the BIOS of your computer when that screen flashes.

Try and disable 'Windows 8 Secure Boot' or something like that.
