Hello, this is my first time posting and I am trying to choose between two Alienware Models. I am heading off to college and want to be able to travel back and forth between school and home with my computer. Currently I am stuck between these two models:

Alienware 17

Intel i7-4700MQ (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz)
17.3 Inch WLED FHD (1920 x 1080 Anti-Glare Display)
AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 4gb GDDR5
32GB DDR3L at 1600MHz
1TB 5400RPM SATA 6Gb/s + 80GB mSATA SSD Caching
Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader 9.5mm
Cost: 2,816.00

Alienware 18

Intel i7-4710MQ (6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz)
18.4 WLED FHD (1920 X 1080) TrueLife Display
Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics with 4GB total GDDR5 (SLI Enabled)
16 GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
1 TB/ 5400 RPM + 80G caching mSATA (to be replaced afterword with 1TB Samsung Evo SSD)
Slot-Loading 8x SuperMulti Drive (DVDR/RW)
Rest is same as Alienware 17
Cost: 2518.99

I know that the 18 has a very slight processor boost and the dual GPU's will cream the 17, I am curious as to whether the decrease in RAM will affect much. Also thanks to Dell's limited component selection for student deals, I cant get the 18 with a blu-ray player but I'll live. I also know that the 18 is more upgradable in the future at the cost of a limited hard drive selection now. I am hoping to keep this computer running for as long as possible and am more than willing to do the upgrades in the future. I suppose I'm just looking for an outsider opinion as to which would give me the most bang for the buck while staying in this price range. I am using student deals to get fairly substantial discounts on these laptops, especially the 18 which is why their prices are even comparable but that means that I cant truly upgrade them like I wish (especially the GPU in the 17). Oh, and one last thing, the 18 offers Dual NVIDIA GTX 765M's or Dual 860M's for the same price, is there any notable differences in these GPU's? Thanks in advance.
