Okay I have a desktop PC custom built by me. Today I noticed that it said my graphics driver stopped working so my game experienced the artifacts stuff. I restarted in hopes that would fix. It booted but then I loaded into the game and then everything stopped working, sound, display. All I saw were many vertical lines down the screen. I doubt it,s the monitor since the sound stopped working as well(was listening to music). The monitor is able to still display its settings like "looking for signal" just fine. My GPU is 6870 and my motherboard is Asrock pro4 z87. I've tried plugging my monitor into the motherboard dvi but no dice. Im leaning toward the motherboard being the problem, but not sure. The pc is not booting into bios or windows, monitor just stays black. The mobo is about 8 months old, my GPU is about 3 years old or whenever this series was still somewhat new. I didn't tweak any software or hardware settings. I have 12 GB of ram and the 4670k not overclocked with stock fan(purchased with mobo). Running win 8.1

Would appreciate troubleshooting and help. Thanks
Sorry for unorganized post. On mobile atm

If I have to get a new mobo, would I have to reinstall windows if its the same model?

Edit: Build
CPU - 4670k stock
GPU - xfx HD 6870 1 gb
Mobo - asrock pro4 z87
Ram - 12gb gskill
PSU - in win Commander II 750W

if the gpu failed it could be locking up your system. pull the gpu and then see if the mb has video. if the onboard video is not turning on try clearing the cmos. also check for any fault led or dr debug codes. if it not the gpu it could be your power supply not outputting the voltage needed to post your mb.

Hey,
if your computer isn't even turning on or going into bios could it be the PSU? It can very well be the mobo, but just looking at all options. I can't see the GPU doing that much damage.

If you wouldn't mind listing your entire build though, it'd be helpful.

okay I took out my GPU only and the PC boots just fine with integrated. I assume my GPU died or PSU is getting old and I need a replacement? How do I know which one? I don't have another desktop to test the gpu
