That motherboard is ok up to about 4ghz. That particular board was built to handle FX 8320/8350. I haven't had an issue out of mine yet. I do agree on PSU. Change it to a 600w Evga bronze. Better PSU for the $$$ than a CX 500.

I think it's good, although I'd change that 6300 for an 8120, the price difference is very small and you'll get more performance from it + higher Oc, I'm not much into ATI cards so I'd suggest a gtx 760, is around $220 US, by the way do you already have a monitor?

Here's an FM2+ build, if your interested in that option:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor ($84.74 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus A88XM-A Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.44 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 USB 3.0 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($45.74 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $574.87

As low as I would consider with an FX based CPU:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.44 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Rosewill REDBONE U3 ATX Mid Tower Case ($34.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $619.37

No way. That FX8120 would be a huge step backwards. That cpu has TERRIBLE single core performance and there will not be any worthwhile overclocking on that super budget motherboard.

I've a 8350 currently running at stock clocks, it's the same architecture of the 8120, I can run bf4 maxxed out with 70 fps and above with no problems, most games are GPU dependant. The gigabyte board is ok and the PSU should be enough for that waltage, maybe he could get an MSI ATX variant instead

But the FX8350 is WAY better than the FX8120. They are based off the same architecture, but they are NOT the same. The FX8350 is a second generation that came with many improvements over the first gen FX8120.

So yeah, the FX8350 would be an upgrade, the FX8120 would be a downgrade.

And the 780 series chipsets are terrible. Especially considering you can get a 970 series for like $15 more.

say i kept everything else but changed the motherboard to this:

ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard

all the reviews i have seen so far are pretty good and with my setup will play games pretty nicely i think

Don't believe to that reviews, 970 Extreme3 doesn't support FX-8320~8350 CPU due to thermal issues so you won't be able to run those CPU's down the road, if you want good 970 chipset motherboard get something like M5A97 R2.0 or GA-970-A UD3P

Well i was talking about running the AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor with the ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard.

dude youtube has the exact same setup as i want and hes running BF4 and titan fall on max settings

FX-6300 is not so good CPU compared to i5's and FX-8320, you'll have low FPS in single/dual core games or in games which need strong single core performance.
