I went over to systemrequirementslab.com/cyri to check some games that could run.

Here's my specs according to CYRI:

Video Card AMD Radeon HD 7540D
Manufacturer ATI
Chipset AMD Radeon HD 7540D
Dedicated Memory 512 MB
Total Memory 3.9 GB
Pixel Shader Version 5.0
Vertex Shader Version 5.0
Hardware T & L Yes
Driver Version 13.251.0.0

Memory 7.7 GB (2x2 GB pre-installed by HP + 1x4 GB Corsair Vengeance)

Can anyone explain to me the difference between the dedicated memory and total memory? And is there a way I can increase the value of the dedicated memory?

Here are my other specs:

Processor AMD A6-5400B APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
Manufacturer AMD
Speed 3.6 GHz
Number of Cores 2

Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Dedicated memory is memory that is dedicated to running applications, e.g. games. Total (Or system) memory is used for the system. In your BIOS you should be able to dedicate amounts of Video Memory, but be aware that the more you dedicate the less there is for the system, so you can have a slower overall computer.

I'm still confused though. It's that "used for the system" part that you mentioned which has me confused. What about the 7.7 GB?? What does that do and how does it differ from the total memory - 3.9 GB??

Eugh sorry. Total memory is the memory that you have, non used. E.g. You buy a 2gb card and you have 2gb total memory.
What is this 7.7 gb you are talking about?

That is the RAM memory fixed to my motherboard. Corsair Vengeance + HP, it's 8 GB out of which 7.7 GB shows up.

You mentioned that dedicated memory is memory that is dedicated to running applications, e.g. games and the total (Or system) memory is used for the system. So I got a bit confused that if the total memory is used for the system then what does the RAM do?
