Hey everyone.

I am buying someone a new printer and I would like to have your advice.

What is expected from it: print 35 pages a week in black, and lets say once every two months the kids have to print a presentation with pictures and colours.

What should I go for, an inkjet or a colour laserprinter? Which one will be cheaper relatively

I have about 100-200 to spend on it, it has to run on Ubuntu as well as Linux.

Thanks!

I had the same problem.
My answer was to buy 2 printers, a cheap ($43) Brother laser and a more expensive multifunction inkjet.
They both work on Puppy, so should do with Ubuntu.

Thanks for your response. she really does not have room for two printers, unfortunately.

With 35 prints a week, will an inkjet be way more expensive than a laserprinter?

A color laser will be more expensive initially, but cheaper to run long term. I have a 7 year old Dell color laser. 4000+ pages through it. I've spent $45 in new toner, total. I've only had to replace the black cart.

An inkjet would have used far, far more ink for that same print volume.
