Hi, I recently bought a Corsair AX860i PSU. Everything seems fine so far except the green light that should not be there. I read that the green light only appears when performing a self test. You hold down the self test button for a few seconds and a green light appears indicating that the PSU is not faulty. However my ax860i has a green light when my PC is powered on. It only turns off when I shutdown my PC. Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Green light constantly lit whilst PC is running is quite normal as it gives continuous confirmation that it isn't faulty.

The "test" function is intended to be used when the PC is off, or even before the PSU is installed, to confirm that the PSU is not faulty when you receive it or at any time thereafter whenever you experience system crashes or failure to boot.

From the Corsair product page:

Hi, thanks for the reply. When you say "quite normal" does that mean that the green light is not constantly lit on some other PCs? Is there any way to remove it? Sorry about the fuss, I just find the green light a little distracting and it doesn't quite go with the aesthetics of my PC.

The green light doesn't depend on the computer you have, it depends on the PSU that's in it, and factory-built computers never have that kind of PSU as standard because they are far too expensive, the manufacturers would rather just stick a cheap one in it to keep costs down.

Only certain PSU models have a green self-test light, most don't have one. Mine doesn't have one, nor have any of the PSUs I've bought over the past 12 years, it's a recently added feature on some high-quality Seasonic & Corsair PSU models if you're prepared to pay that kind of money for one.

I'm puzzled as to why you find the green light distracting. My PC tower is under my desk and all I see is the front of it, the PSU is out of sight at the back so even if it did have a green light it's difficult to imagine how that would distract me.

I see, thanks for the info. My PC is on top of my desk on the right side where you get a clear view of the inside of the case. I wouldn't say it distracts me but like I said, I'm concerned with aesthetics and try to stick to 2 colors max. I just thought the light only appears when doing a self test.

Push comes to shove, there's always the trusty magic marker if the led is that bright.
