The DirectCU II cards undergoes days of stress testing by ASUS with different clocks and settings. Only a few survive and they become the TOP version. Also most cards that reviewers get to review are the TOP version.

But thats like saying , buy a TOP card, cause the non top wont last that long .

Not really. The time will come to upgrade your card long before it dies. It's more like saying the TOP version is more perfect

for $10 dollars? Yes for the TOP name it is, but in reality is it really a big difference?, no. The cooling is almost identical, if you can get something more beneficial for $10 then go for it, i.e. a fan in your case for better ventilation, which in turn is a much better alternative. If placed in a great spot, your card can run even cooler.

i have 2 gelid wing 12 on the side panel, 1 for cpu radiator 1 for the gpu ( amd xfx radeon HD6850) it doesnt make any difference with fan off or on the gpu temps. that xfx gets hot easily

depends where the fans are placed, if correctly, then temps will decrease.

Where can you mount fans?

well, to think about it hot air rises, if you have a fan pushing up cool air through your system (right onto your graphics card), that can make airflow and temps surprisingly lower

survive? This is not how Asus test their cards, they change the cooler slightly and also give it a higher clock setting. they do test the cards but don't test them and ones that aren't doing the best call them the DCUII, and the ones that do well are called the TOP, it is a lot different then that. They test the cards but not to the point where one card clearly "excels", the TOP cards only have to pass a certain clock speed (pretty high yeah, But standard DirectCUII can pass this also.), then the other things listed above is tweaked to them.
