how do i diagnose windows 8.1 speed problems

I have an ACER Aspire with an i3 processor that came with windows 7. I upgraded to windows 8.1 and no it performs horribly. It clocks for long periods of time. The Task manager does not show any run away processes or leaks as far as I can tell.

did you install windows 8 drivers? what the exact model?
