Which windows version should I get

Hi all I am building my own computer for the first time and have almost everything picked out but I am wondering what version of windows I should but for my operating system.

I am a gamer mainly but will also be using my new computer to surf the web, watch movies via bluray player optical drive and listen to music.

Should I buy the regular windows 8.1 or should I get the professional version??

Windows 8.1 will be best as it will be supported longer. And it has a great UI with the original desktop UI included. What is your build?

Regular 8.1. No need for Pro unless you really need the corporate features (which you almost certainly don't)

With Win 8/8.1, it is mainly who you can call for support.
With Retail, you can call Microsoft for an OS related issue.
With OEM, you can call you. Or ask us....

Don't know about 8.1, but I know 7 Pro had XP mode which actually helps with game compatability in some cases.

I would check the MS feature comparison between versions and use that to help you decide.

windows 7 works better if you use a mouse and keyboard. windows 8 is not very useful

I have zero issue using a mouse/keyboard with 8.1. It is not exclusively touchscreen.

Exactly. Boot directly to the desktop. I see the Metro interface only rarely.
