Hello,

I've been purchasing components for a new PC for a few months now.So far I have:

Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
A Samsung 24x Retail DVD Drive (Super Write Master)
Fractal Design Define R4 Case
A Corsair Builder Series CX500 Modular
HyperX Beast 1600MHz 8GB RAM (2,4GBs)
Windows 7 Professonal 64bit.

Now,my original plan was to go with an i5 4670K and a Haswell motherboard with an R9 270,but due to running into unexpected budget issues this has become too expensive.I'm still planning on buying the 270 in a few months but need to assemble this thing ASAP,and hopefully be able to game and do some schoolwork.I have therefore chosen to go with an AMD APU.

I'm considering an A10 5800K.Will this be able to handle 15+ tabs and smoothly play 1080p youtube videos on full screen?Do you have any better suggestions for an APU and motherboard?I don't want to spend more than £150 on both, the closer to £100 the better.

I know this is not a permanent solution and honestly will probably be upgrading to something like broadwell within 2 years,I just urgently need something better than the 11 yr old computer I'm using that can do what I mentioned above.

Good long-term choice :) we just didn't want you to add the 270 expecting awesome results, then seeing big frame drops and 'lag' in CPU intensive situations. I'm having to deal with integrated graphics right now since my power supply died. Went from Ultra in everything at 1080p now to low in everything at 1080p lol though I can manage medium + FXAA at 720p in Borderlands 2 :p lol
Why would you want to buy an a10 when you arleady have a 270.

An i3 with dedicated gpu would do most things as well as an a10, but not leave you traped into the sucky apu platform and require a motherboard change.

If nothing else get an fx-6300 instead of the a10, it is better, and you could always upgrade to a fx-8350 latter instead of having to replace the motherboard to upgrade

To be clear I don't have the 270 yet, which is why I suggested the APU until I get it in 3-4 months.

Obsessed, how would you say the i3 is better?I would have thought the APU would give much better gaming performance and match it on everything else aside from single-thread tasks?
I'm pretty sure the 5800k can run at least some games at 1080P.
That seems like a good setup though,I'm seriously considering it.

Thanks

P.S Obsessed is right about the dedicated GPU thing,it's a priority here and pretty much the reason I couldn't go with an FX CPU.Also, when I next upgrade it's going to be to something much higher end, like broadwell or whatever comes after,so a motherboard change will be inevitable.

Boost, could you explain why you don't like APU's?I don't know much about them.

The i3 certainly isn't better than the A10 for gaming by itself, but once paired with a graphics card, it will be MUCH better at gaming than the A10. I was suggesting that you could get by with the i3's iGPU at low/medium settings at 720p until you can get the graphics card. Going this route would save you from having to upgrade your CPU as well.

The i3 will win handily in any normal computing task, like browsing, etc., and will play games better (once a GPU is added) than the A10 would. And the great part about the i3, is in the future, you can upgrade all the way to an i7, whereas with the A10, to upgrade would mean to get a new motherboard as well.

Seems good,i didn't now i3 was so much better for non-gaming stuff. So should I expect to run fallout 3 at 720p at medium/low settings with i3 Graphics?

I did misread and assumed he already had the 270 GPU, but irregardless better long term to deal with integrated gpu with i3 for a couple months then have the a10 still limit him once he gets the GPU.

The APUs just are not as strong of a cpu as you would expect them to be, which is why an i3 will be faster cpu then the a10 once you take the graphics processing out of the equation, despite a10 having faster clocks and more cores.

Thank you both.I've decided to go with the Haswell i3 as recommended with the H87-HD3 board.
