There is nothing wrong with your laptop. Your laptop powers off with just using an AC adapter, because there is an interruption in your AC power from the wall outlet. Having the battery installed provides a power reserve buffer whenever there is an interruption in the AC power. I have an Alienware 18 gaming laptop and it will do the exact same thing if I take out the battery and just run it on AC power from the wall outlet. The second there is a drop or spike in power, the laptop will shutdown immediately.

Another potential cause is that a 3rd party software tool or the motherboard BIOS itself is running a hardware diagnostic and when the battery is not detected, the laptop is shutdown.

The problem is most likely due to either a bad battery or bad AC adapter. The only way to find out is to replace one or both.
