Does a Sandisk Extreme II need free space?

The fact that it's 240gb instead of 256 suggests that it already has 16gb allocated as free space. Should I partition more to be free space, or does it already have enough? If so, how much should I give it? Thanks in advance.

Solution
It is stated by SanDisk as a 240GB drive so it actually does not have 16GB of space allocated as free space. Drive manufacturers state that 1MB = 1 million bytes but the computer reads the disk differently using binary. The actual formatted capacity of the drive is closer to 224GB. Keep in mind that you need to keep at least 10% of the drive space free for optimal performance.
