Hi, I've cloned my old 1tb Hitachi HDD to new 1tb WD Blue using AOMEI Backupper. However, when I remove the old HDD and tried to boot on WD, it failed. I've set the WD as first boot priority in BIOS. What is the problem?

You've cloned it incorrectly then, but I've never used that program. I have used several though and had problems with many not working.

You can also try the free version of Acronis True Image from the WD web site (hard drive support and download section). There are two options with that program:

1) CLONE, or
2) Backup/Restore

Try the CLONE option first and if that doesn't work you can try Backup/Restore but you'd need a third drive, or partition the WD drive into two (backup to 2nd partition then restore the backup to the 1st partition).

Other:
I've used Macrium Reflect Free as well but it failed me this time. No idea why, though this time I had Windows 8 installed in SECURE mode (non-Legacy). I cloned with the full version of Acronis True Image and it worked fine (though the instructions are slightly confusing).

So, i'm using acronis right now. Hope it works. I wonder what is the problem with the aomei. Does it have something to do with my uefi mobo? Because there is boot mode option whether to choose uefi or legacy+uefi. Or maybe something to do with sata mode: ahci or ide?

Hey, I used Acronis and it worked. Thanks. I have few questions. After clone the disk, there is 401 MB unallocated space. Should I format it or not? One more thing, i tried to check for error on the disk using tools under HDD properties and windows found error that need to be repaired. This thing also happen on my Hitachi. Does it mean both of my old and new WD hard drive got problem?
