Strange connectivity issue between modem/router and desktop ethernet adapter

I am strangely unable to connect my desktop to my modem/router via ethernet cable. It doesn't make a lot of sense, since the desktop connects to other routers without issue and the modem/router connects to other computers without issue as well.

Desktop specs:
Motherboard: MSI X58 (MS-7522) with a Realtek 8111C LAN adapter.
Intel core i7 950 / 12 GB RAM
Windows 8.1

Modem/router:
Xfinity (Comcast) SMC cable modem/wireless router, model number SMCD3GNV
4 LAN ports

When I connect the ethernet cable, the desktop acts as if I have done nothing, saying "Network cable unplugged" in the Network Connections menu. On the router, the green LED blinks steadily, but no yellow LED. On the desktop LAN adapter, there is a solid red LED and a slow-blinking yellow LED. All 4 LAN ports on the router give the same result. All three of my network cables (which all are verified to work with other router-computer connections) give the same result.

Connecting the desktop (using any one of my cables) to a Rosewill RNX-EasyN4 router has no issue, it works fine.

Connecting the modem/router to any one of my other computers (2 laptops and a desktop) works fine with no issues.

It seems to be the specific pairing of the Realtek desktop with this Xfinity router that is the problem, but in my 10 years of setting up my own home networks, I have never run into a similar issue. And unfortunately, I need that specific pairing to work due to how my home is set up.

Things I have tried:
- I have downloaded the latest Realtek 8111C driver for Windows 8.1.
- Gone to Comcast and switched out the router for a completely brand new one (I believe the models were different, but it still has the same issue)
- Various iterations of uninstalling the ethernet adapter driver, restarting.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. Anyone else ever run into anything like this and/or have some suggestions?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the reply. I've tried both, setting it automatically and setting it static. I use the 8.8.8.8 as the DNS server when I set it static. Still no response from the desktop.

One other bit of information I've noticed - when I access the config page of the modem, there is a page showing the status of all 4 LAN ports. The LAN port that I plug the cable in does say 'Active'... but I'm assuming it is just reflecting the fact that there is something in its slot, not necessarily that it's transmitting data.

Sorry about not pasting the ipconfig data yet - my wife needs the internet for her work so I have to forgo testing for tonight. Probably will replace the Xfinity gateway with another DOCSIS 3.0 modem, since the LAN adapter seems to work fine with other stuff. Thanks for your help.

Johnsonma - yes the realtek IS the LAN NIC / ethernet port built in to my motherboard. I don't have a PCI adapter.
