Asus GTX 780ti DCII vs. Asus GTX 780ti Matrix

Hello,

So I'm buying a new computer as a graduation gift from me to myself. My plan is to be able to do some gaming in 1440p as I'll get the Rog Swift when it's released. But yeah, from what I've read is that 780/780ti is what I should be looking at for 1440p gaming. But I'm not really getting the real diffrence between the Asus 780ti DCII (the normal black one with red stripes) and the Asus 780ti Matrix. Is it just the advanced OC options, or what?

I've got a 1440p monitor but game mostly at 1080p because the difference is very minor but at 1080p the frame rate is roughly 30% higher.

My general rule of thumb is that I only game at 2560x1440 if I can maintain 60FPS at the highest or near-highest quality settings. On games like CRYSIS 3 you would definitely want to game at 1920x1080 even with a GTX780Ti.

Top-down, "god" games like Starcraft 2 do look much better at 2560x1440 because of the small HUD and text elements.

It sounds like you are getting the G-Sync monitor though which is awesome. For that I recommend a similar rule of thumb though you can drop to about 50FPS average if needed though for less-demanding games just let it go as high as possible up to the 120FPS limit (I...

Also, read up carefully on LIGHTBOOST because I believe that's only good if you can maintain at least 100FPS.

When it comes time to look at computer parts see if any MAXWELL high-end release dates have been made such as a GTX880.

The MATRIX version looks nice, but I wouldn't pay too much of a premium as I doubt it's more than a couple % difference from the regular DCU2 model once both are clocked up a bit. The MATRIX frequency is about 5% higher, with a better binned chip but wouldn't have as much headroom to overclock so the difference between the cards is likely about 3% at best.

I'm not sure if I'll be overclocking that much, if at all.. So if I get this right - the matrix is a bit faster than the other one when not overclocked but when they've been overclocked there's hardly no diffrence?
And thanks for the tips about 1440p gaming :)
