Getting a new intel cpu with new motherboard. The socket is lga2011 and the motherboard says the channel supported is quad channel. So can I move my 16Gb dual channel into this build? or would i have to buy new quad channel Ram. The only problem with that is that there is no (2 x 8GB) ram with quad channel and would have to end up buying 32gb but there is no need for 32gb.

Ok, thanks. Would I loose any performance by not using quad channel?

And I'd prefer having only 8Gb of sticks so updating to more Ram sticks won't be as expensive

you would loose bandwidth but not so much it would impact gaming. you would notice in things like win rar which benefit from high memory bandwidths.
adding 2 sticks of the same ram as you already have should work as a lot of 8 gig dims now support 4 stick configs. but check with your motherboards memory support list befor you go spending money.

So by adding 2 more sticks to the 2 sticks I have will run in quad channel mode?
