Ive been having this problem at all times of the day, even while noone is home. Ive checked everything all the way to the default gateway. I run windows 8.1 on a wireless N connection. I have heard and searched many thhings ab out this but still haven't come up with a solution. the problem is that every 60 seconds or so, I get such rediculous ping rates then it dissapates. Ive pinged all kinds of servers at all times of the day and this still happens damn near religeously. WHAT IS GOING ON.

To eliminate any obvious host problems, check it with a wired connection. You didn't identify what router model you have. Have you googled for other users of the same router having similar problems?
The title of the thread says you are pinging the "routers gateway" -- That would actually be an address in your ISP's domain. Is that actually what you meant or did you mean that you are pinging the computer's gateway == the router?
